Upstream Reading Challenge: Against the Tide
These days, reading the Bible isn't so popular. Even as Christians, learning to dig into and treasure the Word is difficult. A recent study of bible reading in America conducted by the Barna Group says their findings indicate that, "Those committed to the spiritual practice of Bible reading have stayed just as committed, while those who never made this a consistent part of their lives are now more likely to never open a Bible" .
In college, we're beginning to form spiritual habits that will guide the rest of our lives. That's why CS is endeavoring to help you stand against the tide of this age and read through the entire New Testament in one academic year! Starting every fall semester, we learn to get into the Word personally in a daily way and together in our Small Groups during the week to encourage one another in this pursuit. Plus, win prizes every week at Solid Ground for being up-to-date with your reading! Get plugged in to a Small Group for details and the full reading plan!
For the grace of God, bringing salvation to all men, has appeared / Training us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in the present age,

SMALLGROUPS
Authentic Friendships in Biblical Community
We all want our college years to be filled with meaningful relationships. The friendships you make in your first year of college likely determine the course of your time at UNT. Our goal is to provide UNT students with genuine community based upon our common faith in Christ and centered on the Bible. Small groups are how we "pursue Christ together"!
Our small groups:
-
Do life together daily
-
Study Scripture together weekly
-
Pray for one another regularly
Groups consist of incoming freshmen, upperclassmen and staff and meet according to your schedule. Small group sign-ups begin at the beginning of each semester!
Iron sharpens iron; So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Proverbs 27:17
SOLIDGROUND
Thursday Ministry Series
When college life meets us with uncertainty, our firm foundation is the Word of God. Every semester, we have a new ministry series focused on helping students become grounded in the truth of the Bible. The whole club gathers every week on Thursdays to worship, hear a message and participate in fellowship groups to apply what we heard to our lives.
Join us at the end of each semester for SUMMIT! It's the peak and finale of Solid Ground where we spend the day together doing activities, workshops and listening to our final message.
Read more about this semester's topic and watch past messages on our Solid Ground page!
Everyone therefore who hears these words of Mine and does them shall be likened to a prudent man who built his house upon the rock.
Matthew 7:24
HOMEGROUPS
Home Away from Home
Cafeteria food is nice, but home-cooked meals are so much better! Every week, CS students have the opportunity to enjoy dinner and fellowship in various homes thanks to local alumni! They open their homes, hearts and refrigerators to us week by week and we are so cherished by their shepherding and care. CS students testify many times that the care they receive in the home groups have had a huge impact on their college years and beyond. Being loved by y'all inspires us to do the same for others!
Talk to a staff member about how to get into your home away from home!
And day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they partook of their food with exultation and simplicity of heart.
Acts 2:46
OUTREACH
Gospel & Service
Although it might be scary at first, getting out of your comfort zone to speak about Jesus to a friend or stepping up to serve is not only good for spiritual growth, but also full of joy! We believe it is our commission as followers of Christ to spread the good news in the mission field the Lord has placed us in - UNT! Here are some ways we help each other develop an outward-facing heart:
-
The Timothy Mission: A two-week mission before school starts every fall focused on equipping us with the tools and skills to lead our peers to Christ. Get in on event planning for the coming semester and most importantly - learn to labor together as a team in prayer!
-
Tabling: An opportunity at the beginning of every semester to be out on campus and help non-believers to Christ and believers to strengthening community.
-
Gospel Workshops: If you find it difficult to know what to say to someone about the Lord, get into a workshop! We spend time in the Word in small groups, practice with one another and go out to speak to people on campus.
-
Practical service: Many of our events have a lot of behind-the-scenes work. Whether it's serving food, setting up equipment or photography/videography, there are plenty of ways to volunteer!
-
Community service: We love our Denton community! Participate with us in park clean-ups, helping local non-profits or charity walks/runs.
Ask your small group about ways you can step into your function as a member of the Body & learn to serve the Lord with others!
Behold, I tell you, Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, for they are already white for the harvest.
John 4:35b
CONFERENCES&RETREATS
Be Broadened
We love Denton, but sometimes it's good to get out! CS has multiple events geared toward expanding your circle of fellowship and getting away from campus life to have an encounter with Jesus "on the mountain".
-
Girls/Guys Retreats: Spend a weekend away with your CS fam to refuel your life with the Lord and form lasting bonds with your brothers and sisters in Christ.
-
The College Conference: Every semester we gather with other university clubs from all over Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas for a weekend of hearing the Lord speak and getting to know Christians from other campuses.
-
Campus Connect: University clubs from the metroplex area gather for a day of fun activities, workshops and messages. Snag the opportunity to serve when it's UNT's turn to host!
-
Trips!: We love roadtrips! Especially when it involves enjoying our Creator God as well as stopping by to visit other campus clubs along the way. Sometimes we stay in Texas, and other times we venture out to states across the country!
Hear about upcoming conference and retreats during our announcements at Solid Ground!
But flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
